Teropongpost, – Independensi Media Massa adalah sebuah konsep yang cukup rumit. Secara umum, independensi Media Massa membawa gagasan bahwa setiap Wartawan harus bebas dari segala macam bentuk campur tangan apapun dalam menjalankan tugasnya. Media yang bebas (independen) memiliki peranan yang penting. Seperti halnya Lembaga Hukum yang independen (tidak memihak), dimana mereka menjalankan tugas dengan profesional tidak ada tanggung jawab kepada Politisi maupun Partai Politik tertentu.
Media yang bebas (independen) dapat menjadi pengontrol bagi kebijakan Pemerintah dan Partai-partai Politik, menyuguhkan berita-berita Politik yang berimbang, serta menjadi pedoman bagi masyarakat dalam mendapatkan informasi secara jujur dan apa adanya mengenai para Politisi yang mencalonkan diri sebagai pemimpin.
Kebebasan Media yang efektif haruslah ditopang dengan kondisi Struktural utama seperti ketiadaan sensor, perizinan, ataupun bentuk kontrol lainnya dari pemerintah. Bersamaan dengan itu, perlu adanya perubahan sistem untuk mengembangkan keanekaragaman dalam media. Sehingga persaingan yang terjadi diantara Media pun dapat mendorong berbagai perspektif tentang kebijakan pemilik, dan membatasi kekuasaan politik konglomerat Media.
Media milik pribadi dan bebas hanya dapat terwujud bila ada persaingan yang cukup sengit dalam pasar media. Persaingan tersebut akan membuat pemilik media dan pejabat publik yang korup takut, jika perbuatannya akan terungkap ke publik.
Sering terjadi, Pemerintah dari suatu Negara menyatakan bahwa lembaga-lembaga Demokrasinya masih rapuh dan Medianya belum berpengalaman, sehingga berpendapat ada baiknya jika meneruskan kepemilikan media oleh pemerintah. Situasi seperti ini memang ada, tetapi media milik pemerintah seharusnya jangan diberi kehendak hak monopoli.
Saat ini, media memang tak lepas dari intervensi atau kepentingan oleh pemilik media. Pemilik media dapat menentukan apa yang menjadi kepentingan media tersebut, dibalik berita yang disuguhkan apa adanya kepada publik. Berita yang dimuat tidak secara langsung disampaikan dengan apa adanya, tetapi diolah terlebih dahulu agar menjadi realitas baru untuk disampaikan kepada masyarakat.
Konsentrasi Media dan pemilik media itu sendiri pun sangat berpengaruh terhadap isi atau program yang disuguhkan kepada masyarakat, yang dimana isi atau program tersebut mempresentasikan kepentingan ekonomi maupun politik pemilik media.
Kepentingan-kepentingan pemilik dimasukkan dalam berita yang disampaikan melalui media massa tersebut, sementara kebenaran itu sendiri hanya bisa ada dengan kebebasan. Kebebasan pers adalah salah satu jalan untuk mengungkap kebenaran atas berbagai macam realita yang ada di masyarakat. Dan tidak hanya mementingkan kepentingan pemilik media itu.
Media massa yang ada seharusnya dapat memahami fungsi media massa itu sendiri, seperti fungsi informasi, pengetahuan atau science, hiburan, dsn kontrol sosial. Sehingga media yang sudah memahami hal-hal tersebut tanpa adanya kepentingan pemilik media, maka media tersebut sudah dapat dikatakan memiliki kebebasan.
Disamping itu, Komisi Penyiaran Indonesia (KPI) harus tegas dalam menegur media-media yang tidak memberikan informasi yang berguna bagi khalayak umum. Selain itu, KPI pun harus berani mengambil tindakan apabila mendapat intervensi dari pemilik media itu sendiri.
Pengaruh lainnya, seperti dimana seharusnya masyarakat mendapatkan kesempatan untuk memperoleh tayangan atau program yang lebih berimbang sulit didapatkan. Dikarenakan telah terjadi kepemilikan media oleh segelintir kelompok tertentu yang mana tentunya terjadilah Homogeni informasi. Sehingga kepentingan masyarakat untuk mendapat kebenaran atas informasi menjadi hilang.
Para pemilik modal Media pun kini berusaha untuk menyebarkan lebih banyak lagi jejaring medianya, agar kekuasaannya dapat lebih luas menjangkau khalayak. Kepemilikan Media Massa oleh para elit politik, pada akhirnya mengancam Demokrasi sistem politik. Adanya kepentingan dan ideologi pemilik sedikit banyak mempengaruhi terhadap cara media mengupas Fenomena dan realitas sosial politik yang terjadi. Maka demi memuaskan kepentingan pemilik media, saat ini banyak media yang sudah mulai kehilangan esensi dan fungsi dari media massa yang sesungguhnya. (RED)
